Will i get copies of w2s back when requesting copies of past tax returns that were EFILED?
Anyone efiled taxes and requested copies of the returns? I need copies of my w2's to deal with some state tax issues in 2005 and 2006. I hate to pay 39$ per set for tax return to obtain copies to get w2's from those years then not receive them at all. I didnt send w2s in since i electronically signed but need them now. PLEASE HELP!

- You dont get w2s whether you efile or paper file. All you file are specific forms and NO documentation (whcih means No w2's, tuitiion receipts, nothing.) Getting a copy of your return will do you NO good. You need to go back to your previous employer and ask for a duplicte w2.
- The form 4506-T can also be used to order the IRS copies of the "informational returns" such as W2s. Unfortunately, the line that's not stored by the IRS (because they don't need it) is the state and local info. If you are hoping to see how much you had withheld in state income tax, you will be disappointed. The $39 fee applies to finding a paper original. You efiled and unless you mailed in an 8453 with the w2s attached, the IRS doesn't have them.
- You call the IRS and ask for a transcript of your return. That way, you will not have to pay the $39. Ask the representative to make a copy and fax to you. It sometimes happens that you get on beside his/her own fax machine and isn't dependent upon one that 200 different employees are receiving faxes on. If no luck, call back. You may get a rep that will fax it to you. If you still have no luck, call the company and ask them to fax you another W-2. If they refuse, notify the IRS.
