What are the guidelines of Formal Debates?

I have a class debate in 2 weeks that will be following the guidelines of formal debates but first I have to submit a research paper about the said guidelines. Does anyone know what they are? Can't find any on the internet. Thanks very much.

1. it depends on the format there aer 3 main formats Lincoln Douglas, Parliamentary, and student congress if you just look these up you will find everything you need to know but i will tell you that LD (lincoln douglas) is formatted off of the presidential debate between you guessed it Abraham Lincold and Frederick Douglas and student congress is like a big mess there are no teams and you are just basically fighting a free for alll you raise your hand and the judge calls on you to give a 5 minute speach then the other people can go back and forth and rebuttle for another 3 minutes you can go back and argue with them too during these 3 minutes this happens until everyone has spoken and then a judge ranks the people in order
